Web
Design - the "New Craft"
The
name, Teknea, derives from the ancient Greek words for
"craft" and "new" (tekne and
nea). We are reminded that our word for "technology"
has its origins in the language of ancient Greece. Every
civilization creates a new set of crafts -- from the
first stone tools to the industrial age. With the birth
of the Web, our generation has witnessed the birth of
web site design and development as one of our new
crafts.
The
founder, Mary Chambers, comes from a background in
Art
History and Archaeology and spent much of her life
before Teknea Design learning about antiquity. She
has a Master's
Degree in Art History from the University of Maryland
and a Bachelor's in Archaeology from the George Washington
University in Washington D.C. She has taught courses
in Art History and Humanities for the Albuquerque
Technical
Vocational Institute, but now finds herself on the
other side of the desk, studying for her MBA at the
Santa Clara University in Silicon Vallley.
Teknea
Design draws on the knowledge and experience of
very
talented individuals and groups in order to accomplish
a wide variety of web projects. Partners include
evolutionNext for
high end application development as well as Clearwired for Content Management System driven websites. Teams
are assembled organically and selected to best
accomplish
the
goals
of the client. This keeps down overhead costs and
allows
clients to have a team custom built for them.
Past
projects have ranged from database-driven web sites
to small business visibility sites. Our focus is on
the alignment of business strategy to the web, internet
marketing, usable design, and customer service. Please
see our Portfolio for a better idea of what we can
do.
